My shortcuts gift this year included Alex Raven. I might throw her into the mix just because I'm thinking about her atm. So, let's say I go with:

Ceirdwyn
Alexa Bond
Grace Chandel
Rebecca Horne
Alex Raven

I'm taking Rachel MacLeod out because she's a movie character, not a series character, IIRC. Please correct me if I'm not remembering correctly.

Amanda might qualify because of the relative paucity of stories on FFN and AO3. Since numbers aren't being counted from 7D, that means that most of the "back in the day" stories also aren't being counted.

Are there any others that either of you would like nominated? I'm an old Highlander fan.

If you have the extra slot, I'm sure we can find the characters to fill it.

Rachel MacLeod
Cassandra
Claudia

Whichever other ones were on brightknightie's list that didn't make it onto mine, as well.

Thanks!

Okay, so that's

Annie Devlin
May-Ling Shen
Rachel MacLeod
Cassandra
Claudia Jardine

(There are a ridiculous number of Rachels in this canon, by the way--Rachel Ellenstein in the movies, the aforementioned Rachel MacLeod, and Rachel McClelland.)

Looks great! This is going to be a most populous Highlander tagset.

Thank you for being interested in nominating for HL!

:-) And thank you very much for so excellently untangling the Rachels! :-)

I remember what a big impression Rachel MacLeod made on me in "Homeland." When she returned in "Promises," I jumped up off the dorm TV room couch and shouted. (Of course her scene in "Deliverance" was Eurominutes-only at that time, and I was in North America.)

I know that the Watcher notes in the DVD extras are hardly canon, but I've long enjoyed their suggestion that Rachel went on to a career in Scottish politics... especially this past year! :-)

Oh, she was in the series! I completely did not remember her. Must be all that cross-Rachel confusion.

Doing the math for HL's women

On the bright side, I didn't turn up any count below one! On the down side... basically, every character in HL who isn't a CIS-male is eligible for this game?

HL has *3,300* stories on the AO3 right now.

  1. ~11.0% : Amanda is tagged in 364 stories

  2. ~02.2% : Cassandra is tagged in 72 stories.

  3. ~01.7% : Tessa is tagged in 56 stories.

  4. ~01.5% : Rebecca is tagged in 48 stories.

  5. ~01.2% : Alexa is tagged in 40 stories.

  6. ~00.5% : Amy is tagged in 17 stories.

  7. ~00.5% : Ceirdwyn is tagged in 15 stories
  8. .
  9. ~00.3% : Anne is tagged in 11 stories.

  10. ~00.3% : Grace is tagged in 11 stories.

  11. ~00.2% : Claudia is tagged in 7 stories.

  12. ~00.2% : Michelle is tagged in 6 stories.

  13. ~00.0% : Randi is tagged in 3 stories.

  14. ~00.0% : Angie is tagged in 3 stories.

  15. ~00.0% : Rachel (MacLeod) is tagged in 3 stories.

  16. ~00.0% : Nefertiri is tagged in 2 stories.

  17. ~00.0% : Annie is tagged in 1 story.

  18. ~00.0% : May-Ling is tagged in 1 story.

So, whom are we going to bump for Amanda?

Cassandra would be my own choice to bow out to make way for Amanda, if it were my call.

For myself, personally, though, I feel that Amanda, as the most frequently written woman character in HLdom, doesn't need this ficathon in the profound way that many of the others do, if that makes sense. I feel that Amanda is not as disproportionately and conspicuously neglected as some of the others.

You make a good point. Amanda is consistently one of the most appearing characters in Shortcuts. And there's nothing barring her from being in a story here, regardless of whether she's requested. We have the opportunity to focus on the less written characters, so we should.
