fic comments and rule change for next year

Tomorrow it will be a week since the stories went up, and this is your friendly mod-reminder to leave a comment on the fic that was written for you as a gift. If there’s a reason that you can’t/don’t want to comment, please, get in touch with the mods and we will do our best to accommodate you.


This is also good preparation for next year, when we will be introducing a new requirement for the challenge: you’ll be required to comment on the fic written for you and failing to comment will be grounds for ineligibility for the following year.


The only exception to this would be if the fic written for you specifically uses things you outlined as squicks/triggers, or is in another ways racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic/etc. We will also work to accommodate you if you have issues with anxiety re: commenting and work with you.


This is one of those things that was always understood to be a requirement for an exchange, but we have had some issues with it the past few years, and it’s something that should’ve been a part of the rules already and now will be in the future.

I know it's a bummer to have to add a rule like that (it always feels like it shouldn't be necessary) and I appreciate your willingness to take that step. Thanks for your work on the fest.

Unfortunately, the rarelywritten exchange is currently on hiatus. It is unlikely that there will be an exchange this year.
